Old Mutual, one of the leading financial services providers in Namibia, celebrated 172 years of existence on Wednesday.
With over 900 employees in Namibia, Old Mutual has been voted the best employer since 2012.
Old Mutual employees celebrated in song and applauded all of the milestones accomplished. Equipped Dance Academy entertained members of the public, who also received commemorative shirts and cupcakes before heading to work.
Marking the day, Old Mutual Marketing, Transformation and Customer Strategy Executive, Ndangi Katoma, said they would continue to create positive futures and to make a positive impact in the lives of their customers and the communities they operate in.
Katoma noted Old Mutual’s contribution to the national development agenda, including addressing housing needs in Namibia.
“To mention a few milestones, Old Mutual has been able to finance the servicing of 448 erven in Walvis Bay and Otavi and financed the development of 580 housing units in Windhoek in 2016 as part of its responsible investment.
“On an annual basis, Old Mutual, through the Old Mutual Foundation, continuously assists communities in which we operate in the areas of education, community development, skills and capacity building.
“In the education area, over 90 students have greatly been shaped in their different career paths since 2007 through the bursary award,” Katoma said. Other annual flagship projects include the Old Mutual Far North Championships and Old Mutual Victory Race. Old Mutual was established in Cape Town in 1845 as South Africa’s first mutual life insurance company, offering financial security in uncertain times. The company, with approximately 64,000 employees world-wide, now provides investment, savings, insurance and banking services in Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia. Old Mutual has four strong businesses in Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM), Nedbank, Old Mutual Wealth (OMW) and Old Mutual Asset Management (OMAM).
