Skorpion Zinc’s parent company appoints new CEO
Vedanta Resources this week announced the appointment of Deshnee Naidoo, as the Chief Executive Officer for Africa Base Metals.
Vedanta said Naidoo’s appointment signals its ongoing commitment to enhancing its African operations.
Naidoo will combine the leadership of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) in Zambia, and Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) in South Africa and Namibia, as well as copper mines of Tasmania.
Naidoo’s appointment coincides with the departure of Steven Din, KCM’s current CEO, who will leave the Vedanta group this July.
Vedanta Zinc International estimates that Skorpion Zinc at Rosh Pinah’s underground resource contains as much as 3,6 million tons of zinc and is investigating the possibility of underground mining.
The miner is also currently in the process of reviewing the conversion of its refinery at Skorpion to co-treat sulphides potentially from Gergarub (Namibia) and the Gamsberg project in South Africa.
